Landscape design and refresh in Pittsburgh, Pa
When homeowners in Pittsburgh, PA asked D&L Landscaping and Exterior Cleaning to revitalize a steep hillside, we started with a clear, practical plan. The existing plant material was removed and overgrown weeds were cut back to create a clean working area. Clearing the site first made it possible to see the slope, soil conditions, and the best approach for new plantings.
Next, our crew graded the site to create a consistent planting surface. Proper grading helps with water flow and establishes a uniform bed for the new shrubs, which is especially important on a hillside. With a level planting plane, each plant gets the right amount of soil and room to establish itself.
For the new planting, we installed 14 three-gallon blue rug junipers, spaced five feet apart. Blue rug juniper is a low-growing groundcover that works well on slopes because it spreads and helps stabilize soil without requiring a lot of upkeep. Spacing the plants five feet apart allows them room to grow and fill in, while maintaining a tidy, intentional layout across the hillside.
After placing and setting each juniper, we finished the beds with two yards of fresh bark mulch. The mulch serves several purposes. It helps control weeds by limiting sunlight to weed seeds, it retains moisture around the new plants, and it gives the area a clean, finished look. Two yards provided an even cover without overwhelming the new shrubs.
Throughout the project, we kept the work area tidy. All debris from the removal and installation was gathered and removed from the property. That final cleanup step ensures the yard is safe and ready to enjoy right away, and it leaves the new landscaping looking professional.
This hillside landscaping project in Pittsburgh, PA focused on practical improvements that deliver immediate visual benefits and easier maintenance going forward. The combination of grading, thoughtful plant selection, and mulch installation provides a simple, durable solution for a slope that needed attention.
D&L Landscaping and Exterior Cleaning completed the job with attention to detail, following the homeowner’s request for a refreshed hillside. If you have a similar slope that needs revitalization, our team can assess the site and recommend an approach that fits the property and your goals.
